Whatever happened to Toro the cat, I wonder.
I get the other games, but how do you figure MS "stole" GTA? GTAIII, Vice City, San Andreas, and IV have all been released to multiple consoles including the Xbox. I don't recall this series ever having been exclusive to any one platform.
Are you hating on the game just to hate on it or have you actually played and dislike it?
C'mon people. I don't think UE needs to be used for SFIV, but this is awesome work. Grats to the artist.
Yeah, it's hella misleading. They could have just added a damn question mark and saved the heartache.
...and yet there are installations of each series which do not live up the hype. Look at Final Fantasy. Since VII when JRPGs achieved mainstream success, they've been pretty hit and miss according to fans and critics alike, including VII itself. The Halo and GTA series both amass a given amount of hype with each announcement, but look at how that died when people actually played GTA IV and Halo 3.
You seem to be saying that because a franchise is popular, the hype will deliver an...
Ah, well I'm not judging (as disagrees seem to indicate) I just didn't know who the guy or gal was.
However you want to rationalize it, it is $50 a year you could be using towards something else. The per day argument is so weak to me. No one pays cents per day. If you tell MS you want to pay per day they'll laugh you right out of Redmond. You pay the $50 up front. Just like you would for a game or a controller or a few new CDs.
I will say that XBL gives you an edge or two over free services in regards to support and servers. But as a PC gamer, I've always disliked XBL charging ...
Leon, I think at some point I used to think you had actual insight. But this one of the worst things I've ever read from you. Yes, people are pro Obama. The guy just won the presidency. Does this not happen every time we get a new president? Did we not think Bush would be our saviour and knight in shining armour while Democrats snickered and laughed at his failings as an orator? Did we not regard the left as "un-American" during the last Republican reign over Washington when they sp...
So Variety thinks they can judge us gamers. Because I don't consider that mag to be on the pulse of gaming.
I've only been around here a few months and mostly in the comments section, but it's obvious we've seen more Sony evangelism than MS love these days. And that all has to do with KZ2 coming in around the corner. Proof is all around you. Look at the number of KZ2 articles submitted daily to N4G.
The key is "these days". Because I remember back in Nove...
Sega isn't what it used to be at all. Even the most diehard fan can see that. Personally, besides Valkyria Chronicles, Sega hasn't made a single game I've wanted to play this gen. If they were considering a new console, which I don't think they are, I'd get it but I wouldn't be too hopeful of its chances.
What the heck is the difference between "stand-alone expansion" and a completely new game? If you don't need Halo 3 to play it, I'm not sure why you don't just call it a prequel/sequel/spinoff. It irks me, irrationally.
Of course none of that has any bearing on whether the game will be awesome or not.
aXXo is some sort of super pirate, I take it?
Good article.
I especially agree with the final portion because I've always felt that games should go beyond how many enemies you can whack with a big stick. It stifles the variety of games you create and the ideas you put into them.
What do people think is happening here? That Sony and MS are collaborating on a new IP through Ready at Dawn? Doubtful.
A third-party dev plans to put out a new IP on *gasp* both 360 and PS3! So why is that amazing?
The real news is that Ready at Dawn will finally develop an original IP instead of working with others'.
No biggie. It's not like there's a lot of hype drummed up for this one. We have our fill of WW2 related games already so I can't see myself mourning over the decision prematurely.
All that's left is to hope it plays well, but isn't so damn addictive that I have to have a sequel. That would hurt.
Nice post.
This is most JRPGs you describe and I'm not too sure they want change.
That's because, as much as the games ship abroad, Japan makes RPGs for home above all else. I don't see them as too concerned with appeasing Western tastes at least to the point of stripping out standard JRPG mainstays and clichés. And why should they? Their RPGs sell so much better within their borders than without.
None of that is to say I'm particularly happy with...
This kind of backlash is all Newell's fault. I wish he could have just shut up for three seconds and let his team continue to make their admittedly good multiplayer games with some quiet dignity.
Really, the only game I'd want on PS3 is Mass Effect. And yes, I'd want it larger than a 360 DVD-9 can hold. Not bashing, it's just blu-ray holds more and I'd want the devs to take advantage of that. I'd get a bigger game with more content and I'm sorry if that makes me seem Sony sympath...
Yeah, this is just masquerading as magnanimous. I mean how many people over there still maintain an Xbox alpha under warranty? MS has to know it's not that many, otherwise the deal wouldn't be out there in the first place.
I agree. DIGI-GUYS and the press have been talking this one up for years now with the same boring trailer. I know they're developing RTE1080 to go along with it, but boy is this taking forever.
If they intend to release it sometime this year, I want to see some new video like now.
